Presentation

What is a social enterprise? What is the impact of this particular type of organization on workers? What effects does the action of social enterprises have on the beneficiaries and on the territories?

Social enterprises are distinguished by their declared will to promote social and/or environmental action. However, the term social enterprise remains vague, inviting us to question the definition and the scope of action of these enterprises. The diversity of statutes or names, whether or not associated with clear legal frameworks, is symptomatic of several phenomena: the proliferation of the promotion of other forms of enterprise than the classic market enterprise, the diversity of the goals pursued, and the competition between the proponents of each status.

All of these phenomena contribute to blurring the boundaries of what a social enterprise is and make it difficult to evaluate the effects of its action, both on workers and on its external beneficiaries.

Our goals

- To identify the nebulous nature of social enterprises, through the notions of social innovation and social utility and the various legal frameworks that exist both in France and abroad (status of social economy enterprises, mission-based enterprises, B-Corps, etc.);
- To identify the effects of the social action of these enterprises, on the beneficiaries of their activities as well as on the workers and their health, and more broadly on the social cohesion of local territories (particularly in Ile-de-France).

The approach taken is holistic, bringing together different disciplines (law, sociology, economics, management, psychology, anthropology, history, etc.), and open to international perspectives.
One day will be devoted to the French approach, the following half-day will open to an international perspective.
